Frittata is the perfect breakfast food--or lunch or dinner or midnight snack food. In other words, frittata is perfect any time of the day or night. What makes the frittata delicious of course, depends on the ingredients and cooking method. Here, we combine chicken sausage, eggs, and parmesan cheese and kick up the flavor with basil, sun dried tomatoes, Italian spices and jalapeno pepper. So whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner, this is a great anytime dish.

What Is The Difference Between Frittata, Omelette and Quiche

Each of these dishes involves eggs in a pan, so choosing which would be right for you depends on what your cooking and preparation preferences are. You can essentially add the same ingredients to any of these dishes.

Frittata: A frittata has eggs and your chosen ingredients mixed together in a pan and baked in the oven. Typically, the meat, vegetables or spices are sauteed before adding the eggs, but the process is simple enough for a novice cook.

Omelette: To make an omelette, you cook the base of scrambled eggs in a pan, and add your omelette ingredients on top of that. You then flip the omelette in half. An omelette requires more finesse in preparation than a frittata or quiche, due to the fact that if you mess up the flipping, you basically will have scrambled eggs.

Quiche: A quiche requires the advance preparation and baking of a crust, which is more time consuming than either the frittata or the omelette.

For all of those reasons, we choose to make this simple frittata.

Variations

Eggs are probably the most versatile food available, and while this frittata is prepared with ingredients to create an Italian flavored dish, you can substitute any meat, cheese, vegetable or spice that you prefer to create your signature frittata.

Equipment

You will be cooking the frittata in the oven for a period of time, so it is important to have an oven safe pan.

Storage

We do not recommend storing or freezing this frittata. Eggs are best enjoyed immediately after cooking.

Top tip

It is important to confirm that the eggs are done before removing from the oven. You can check the middle for doneness with a fork or skewer and pull the pan out when the eggs are firm and ready. Set the pan on a cutting board and carefully place a high heat spatula under frittata and loosen.
