You can use a variety of fruits to make a tart, including berries, pears, peaches and plums. Adjust the recipe to incorporate your favorite fruit, keeping all other ingredients as listed.
If you are gluten free, you can select from many gluten free puff pastries to make this recipe comply with those diet requirements. The remaining ingredients in the recipe are gluten free, including the bourbon.
If you prefer to make this recipe alcohol free, simple substitute lemon juice for the bourbon.
Variations
To make this tart, we used a pre-made Puff Pastry, but you can make your pastry from scratch if you are in a baking mode.
Equipment
We used a standard baking sheet for this recipe, but I recommend that you use either parchment paper or a silicon baking mat when baking to prevent your tart from sticking.
Storage
I would like to give you a storage tip, but the truth is, this tart never stays around long enough to consider storage methods. It will keep well in the refrigerator for several days if required though.
Top tip
To keep the juices from the apples inside the tart, I recommend that you create an edge around the tart. Take pastry dough and slice a ½” off the edges around the square dough. It should look like a picture frame when done. Take the ½” cut piece (frame) and place it along the edges of the dough. This will give the tart a raised edge . You can be creative and angle cut the corners, I usually just pinch the corners.
